Racecourse Features and Location

Ffos Las Racecourse

A new racecourse is born……

After many years in the planning and a £20 million investment, Carmarthenshire is set to enjoy some of the country’s best racing when Ffos Las opened its doors on the 18th June 2009.

Set in amid rolling hills and overlooking Carmarthen Bay to Tenby and Caldey Island, it is hard to imagine that this area was the home of Europe’s largest open cast coalmine.

Ffos Las will become the first turf racecourse in the UK to open since Taunton first raced in 1927.  It will host very good quality Jump and Flat racing year round and will provide state of the art facilities for the horses, trainers and jockeys and the viewing public.

Finding Ffos Las

It is very accessible being only 15 minutes from junction 47 of the M4 if you are travelling from the east and 15 minutes from Carmarthen if travelling from the west.

By Road

The racecourse lies 12 miles southeast of Carmarthen, five miles northwest of Llanelli and approx 9 miles southwest of junction 48 on the M4 motorway.  Travelling from the east you should take junction 48 from the M4 and join the A4138 to Llanelli, you will then be able to follow the brown tourist signs to the racecourse.

From the west you can take the A48 to Carmarthen and then the A484 to Kidwelly following the brown tourist signs will lead you to the racecourse.

From either direction you can also take the A48 to Cross Hands and then the A476 to Upper Tumble following the brown tourist signs to the racecourse.
